Submarines

One of my 2010 New Year's resolutions is to read at least one book a month. Top of my January reading list was a book titled "Das Boot"!! Isn't the title classic - reminds me of the Essenhaus in Madison (back when they actually sold beer in glass boots =) Ah, the good old days.

The author served on a german submarine during World War II; while the book is fictional, it does give a fairly interesting look at life on a submarine during war. A rough life to say the least. I read a stat somewhere that only about 1 in 4 people that served on german submarines during the war survived...yikes. Those are not favorable odds...



Andrew and I toured a submarine when we were in San Francisco last fall and MAN WAS IT TIGHT inside there. I've been intrigued with submarines ever since! Here's some photos from our submarine tour of the USS Pampanito:
