Each year the Discovery channel has one week of programming they call "Shark Week" and right now happens to be the week. We always learn some interesting stuff that we otherwise would never know. Here's a recap of what we've learned so far:
- If you're being bitten by a shark, poke at its eyes. For some reason, that usually causes the shark to release its grip.
- Brightly colored clothing does in fact attract sharks more than dark, solid colored apparel. Their eyes have more defined sensors for telling the difference in brightness. Basically, leave the leopard print at home and go for the solid black.
- Dawn and dusk are REALLY bad times to be in the water, as these are key times for sharks to be eating so don't get your swim on during these times of day.
- All the oil rigs off the gulf coast attract a lot of small fish which of course are the main course for bigger sharks, so lots of sharks like to hang out there.
