The national weather service last night reported some 72 MPH straight line winds somewhere close to our town. It was really blowing out there with the wind and some places were getting 2 inches of rain an hour (very strong downpours in already saturated grounds) so all sorts of flood warnings too.
We were watching one of the local TV stations and one of their roaming reporters called in from a gas station a mile or two from our house and he said there was 12" of standing water in one spot on the major highway that runs through our town. Yikes.
Apparently this storm system was really unique because it was so tall in the atmosphere. Went up around 60,000 feet; where normal storm systems are around half that maybe (I guess).
Here are some photos from the friday night storm clouds. The two storm systems that night went north and south of us so we didn't have to deal with much besides some rain.
